If there is one thing that has been a red line in Oyibo's life, it has been the machine he rides. By the time he celebrated his 18th birthday, Oyibo got his first motorbike (Honda CB200). Due to the fact that Oyibo worked as a Marine Engineer, he has been away for months so getting his drivers license took a little over a year.
When he received his drivers license (by mail) on a Friday morning,
he decided to do a small European tour and he left that Friday afternoon.
First drive to the south of the country, Sunday to Paris, Tuesday to
the Swiss Alps, Thursday to the Austrian Alps and Italy, Friday to
Germany and Sunday home again. Nine countries in nine days. This first
tour would be a Blue Print of any further travel Oyibo has done over
fortyfive years.
One thing that has to do with this is that when on a project, Oyibo doesn't want to fly (unless mandatory by the company) so he drives. In Nigeria (not the most safe country) he always drove with his Jeep Grand Cherokee between the base in Benin City to the Main Office, Airport etc. in Lagos. And still it was faster and more reliable then by plane. A nice sample of such a trip is here
Needless to say that besides drove mainly 4x4 vehicles (during projects), the main interest of Oyibo is still with motorbikes. He has owned a huge number of them over the years. A summery
At this point in time, Oyibo still owns (and rides) the Triumph
Daytona NS (although being converted to a Triumph Speed Triple) and of
course the KTM 1190 Adventure R. This is the daily ride.
Oyibo almost never had a motorbike on a project (besides the
occasional rental), Oyibo has a strong preference for Jeep. He owned
two Jeep Grand Cherokee's (one in Mauritania and one in Nigeria). Due to some stupid reason, people seems to like Toyota's. Oyibo has driven
most of the (four wheel drive) Toyota models which resulted in his
incurable TI (Toyota Intolerance). A nasty decease...
